I mean, it might be a solution for some of the incongruities of M&B. To make "authentic" medieval battles you need a bunch of people and then how are you feeding all these people without looting the countryside and why are so many people willing to go die for some foreign lord etc. etc. etc.
A mech lance works in a time where trucks and refrigerators exist. You might need a larger support staff, but you're fielding a handful of units and repairing them afterwards is an expected activity.
Anyway, now that I'm thinking about it, Phantom Brigade already exists. It's not as openworldfreeformdowhatyouwant as M&B, but it is pretty hands off on how you want to run your insurgency.
