Anybody else avoid watching music videos because you don't want the visuals to permanently color your interpretation or impression of the music?

Music will mean very different things to me over time and the shape of that meaning is very susceptible to impression. I find that if I limit those impressions to the feelings I'm having, the music becomes far more enjoyable and memorable and meaningful.

I'm not saying this is the correct way to do anything, but curious if others have felt this way.

Most of the time it doesn't matter to me either way. If the music is good I'll enjoy it whether there's a full production video or just a logo slowly rotating.

The only ones I really don't like are lyric videos. My brain always goes into "reading" mode instead of "listening" mode and I definitely get less enjoyment.

Eh, it's like books/films. Once you've seen the movie reading the book without the film having an influence is next to impossible.

I don't think music videos have the same power though. And some music videos are part of the music.

Like Bloodhound Gang's Bad Touch.

Sure the book movie comparison is the same phenomenon, but music can be much more poetic in nature and mutable and so I feel like locking that up is "worse" than when it happens to a movie.
