It's a weird argument that I came up with but, the more I think of it, the more plausible it becomes. In today's landscape of movies, inane, nonsensical, fatuous films don't truly exist as much as they used to primarily because the business model of movies have taken hold in such a way that the only thing possible to be made (save for the few artistic indies from directors/studios with the pull to make them) are blockbuster, billion dollar franchises.

In other words: EVERYONE is chasing the bag.

And on a side note it's why I have a hard time in the age of streaming getting attached to a show or characters, much as i love things I try to watch, because who knows when it fails to meet some CEO's metric, then is vanished into the ether forever, and oh look, no physical media copy anywhere.

sigh

Trying to be creative in capitalism is a bitch.

On a more personal note? This is also why I try not to compare my Korps writing to others, or the bigger stories out there. Because if I have a vibe as conveyed by others it IS cheesy 90's action anime. The shit I grew up on. The complete over the top nonsense with a bit of heartfelt drama thrown in. Hopefully character growth for Nozomi too in Weight of a Choice, she honestly did kinda need it)

Love the slice of life stuff too, it's important, it's world building as well (And I'm a slut for world building)

Don't need a large scale conflict to have a good story, just need to have fun with it. And hearing that darling Drachensons was having fun with a little scene review is the kinda thing that brings a smile to my face. And the kinda thing we need more of on all fronts. From the small to the big.
