personally i think the WSDOT sign shop should let me make a few signs, and/or someone should ban me from looking at the MUTCD

fun fact this would be 22 feet wide and 10.5 feet tall. freeway signs are fucking huge

they can't stop you from replacing highway signs with this if nobody sees you do it

in reply to @iliana's post:

the actual R1-9(a) as of the 11th edition of the MUTCD (chapter 2B, page 82) has the smaller text at bottom; the spacing is also a little bit expanded, although not nearly as much as i did in the sign above lol.

various different signs have adjusted spacing as necessary, most commonly for space reasons on the diamond warning signs. i also think the particular font i have (https://github.com/sammdot/roadgeek-fonts) is not 100% accurate to the spacing specified in Standard Highway Signs and adding spacing is definitely not proportional to that

one time while driving in kansas i saw a work truck carrying like 1/8th of an overhead sign and it gave me a renewed appreciation for how much engineering has to go into mounting those things so that they don't kill people
