After SRC’s 2023 redesign, I (@GFD, EHF’s sole super moderator on SRC) could no longer edit several guides I had written for EHF because of newly‐imposed text length limits. They are now hosted here instead, along with all other rules and guides for completeness.

  • Usage of WINE or virtual machines is not permitted.
  • One of the legal Speedrunning Edition executables (available in the resources section) must be used.
  • All other game files must be present and unmodified from their official distribution.
  • The “LOW FRAMERATE” warning can never appear during uninterrupted gameplay (i.e. due to low performance).
  • During the run, the Windows PC must never switch away from the user desktop running the game, such as by invoking the secure desktop (done by inputting a secure attention key/sequence like Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring up the security screen, through a UAC prompt, or by locking the PC). Read the “Engine bugs” section of the Controls and techniques guide for more information.

Full Game categories

  • Any submissions for a top 4 time require video proof. Other runs must at least include their split times (which can be logged by the auto‐splitter script available in the resources section).
  • Before the game starts, there must either be no “dat.dat” save file in its directory, or the save file must have no progress made (including not clearing the intro); a manufactured save file with no progress and VSync enabled is available in the resources section.
  • The in‐game timer starts when the game engine starts, and ends when the final chapter starts and is unlocked.

Zero Ring Mode

  • “Zero Ring Mode” must be enabled in the menu before completing the “Panjan” chapter, and must not be disabled during the rest of the run.

Level categories

  • ILs are only valid when started from the menu or started by using the shift+enter restart shortcut added by the Speedrunning Edition.
  • ILs that were performed as part of other full‐game run attempts may be submitted.
  • All submissions require video proof.
  • The in‐game IL timer starts when the chapter is loaded, and ends when the next autosave is reached.

Any%

  • “Zero Ring Mode” can be disabled or enabled in the menu. As such, Zero Ring Mode runs can be valid for both IL categories.

Zero Ring Mode

  • “Zero Ring Mode” must be enabled in the menu.
  • This category is not applicable to chapters where there is no functional gameplay difference. Those chapters are:
    • Intro
    • Dream
    • Cabin
    • Grass
    • Lost
    • ZigZag
    • Free
    • Hangar
    • Ultimate

Robot/Doors

  • Note that this is the only level where the in‐game IL timer does not end when the next autosave is reached. (The autosave for the “Lost” chapter ends the IL timer, and not the first autosave for the “Doors” chapter.)
