the fact that nokia didn't buy palm and go on to become the most successful mobile phone maker with a N9 running webOS is proof that we live in the darkest timeline.

instead we got microsoft buying nokia and eventually killing it off¹, and hp buying palm and ruining it before ripping it apart entirely.

webOS was doing shit in 2009 that everyone else is still copying in 2023. the iPhone X, its gesture interface, and the card-based multitasking ui, were essentially a slightly worse carbon copy of what webOS had, which was then copied by every android oem out there as well of course.

the spirit of webOS lives on through iOS and Android² because nobody figured out how to do it better. i just wish it had been given more of a chance with a wider array of hardware and more money backing it.

1. i will not hear any windows phone 7/8 slander. it was a good os and i miss it every day. 10 can go to hell though.

2. i know about lg but come on. that tv os is a bastardized version of something that used to be great. calling that real webOS is like calling modern macOS NeXTStep.
