in reply to @xkeeper's post:

this particular font that nintendo is obsessed with (the one from the screenshot editor, etc) bugs the shit out of me because i first really saw it used in the PSP days and it just feels like the most blocky, boring font

Yeah that's what's bothering me too, the remake looks great in the other areas but the HUD looks a lot like the same kind of placeholder-ass generic UI as all the other Mario spinoffs on Switch

Like it's not a dealbreaker or anything but man I miss when Mario games (especially its spinoffs) had nice-looking UIs with a lot of personality

it really feels like they finally sat down and wrote some "this is how everything should look, period" guide and are following it to the letter, rather than just kind of going with something interesting that still works

ahhhh yeah, that is a really good point

we're honestly surprised it's getting made at all. Nintendo had a falling-out with the studio that made the SNES version, and didn't own the new characters and stuff, hence why they had to start over with Paper Mario.

so many first-party nintendo games feel like they all use the same subset of fonts and designs with little meaningful variety

it took me a minute to place it but i'm pretty sure the main font is the same one as in animal crossing: new horizons and a handful of other games, which, eh

meanwhile I was thinking about how mario wonder was using a distinctive looking font

I'm just gonna wait to see how it all looks in context before I judge it too harshly, but yea like, mario rpg did have standard rpg windows with black backgrounds and white borders

I just wonder what the menus gonna look like lmao

there is A Handful of things i am anxiously awaiting to see, most of all the translation. the original was pretty close to perfect

do you think they'll "fix" the permanently missable first Surprise Block™? my bet is on yes
