True! Honestly I liked season 5 the most because it finally started to break with that (though still not enough).
the nicest thing i can at least say is all the main cop characters consistently give the vibe of "you shouldn't be a cop" rather than "this feels fake as hell"
hmm. i think sitting on it, the reason why i like them is bc like, they're ordinary cops but they're doing detective work. which like, is something that can definitely not be a cop thing or even a carceral thing (see veronica mars for example). like, disco elysium or something. there is i think an argument that detectives are valuable, and don't need to be cops at all and it sort of reinforces the vibe i get from the show's characters that they just... aren't who cops are. but not in a way that feels false, or propagandising, just... these aren't people who should be cops. (and definitely, the show has cops and they're nearly always antagonists too.)
complicated for sure. i'm glad to enjoy it but feel critical.
