I'm calling it Consumer Device Reference Platform. You can, technically, if you know where and how to get 'em, buy things that are designed to show off the specs of whatever chip, chipset, board, or other platform a manufacturer is touting. They tend to almost universally exhibit the engineering equivalent of "programmer art."
I make things like this at work sometimes - not the device inside, but the shells. It's pretty straightforward - you bend the plastic, make some cutouts and holes, polish it all up, and mount the device.
