took my partner to see super mario as my birthday treat for them, and it was: pretty okay. illumination needs to take a page from the Pixar book and start making scenes exclusively for the trailers though because I felt like I already saw half the movie. I had a good time though. The finale was great. Their TV commercial is great.
lots of references to very old nintendo games which was cute. Really obnoxious references to some other stuff where Peach might as well have looked at the camera and said "get it, kids?"
Fred Armisen sucked as Cranky Kong. Seth Rogan played himself but an ape. Chris Pratt only says 'wahoo' because they had a gun trained on his kid or something, you know they had to force him to. Barely adequate. Celebrity casting in animated films is so awful all the time, except:
Jack Black was pretty great. Can't wait for one particular scene to get overdubbed with Fuck Her Gently and you fucking know it will be. If you saw it you probably know which one I mean.
