I wonder what art education looked like in Japan in the late sixties to mid seventies. There have to be books that were published then, right? Art books, how to books?

I was reflecting how a lot of the comic artists I like from back then draw a certain way and since I have nothing but time today I figured I would see what I could find out.

I figure it wouldn't necessarily be 'how to draw comics' because if you take for example Yoshihisa Tagami, his work has a strong 'design drawing' vibe. Like, architectural sketch style. If you know what I'm talking about you get it. There's very little biographical info about him on the English speaking web though. I don't know his background, only that he was born in 58 and his debut was somewhere in the 70s.

This would be much easier if I spoke Japanese. I don't even know where to begin searching.

I just cannot communicate how BIG they are. They can't even fit the assembled aircraft through the hangar doors with the wings at full extension - they have to fold up a seven foot tip on each end just to roll it out. Incredible!!

I asked if they'd teach me to operate the crane because it's cool and I want to do it. They'll show me the next time we move a wing panel out. Decided I'd rather ask than wait to be assigned some distant day.

Today I am assigned to "LEAN activities" which functionally means "go lean around somewhere" because there's no work for me.

Time to read I guess.
