Remember when one guy with an obsession could spend years working on a project nobody really asked for, but that was very important to him? Anyway, here's Denys Fisher, inventor of the spirograph.

We need to bring back this kind of inventor, the obsessive-compulsive with a dream

I keep seeing this idea that everything has been made and there's no innovation anymore and it always struck me as weird. Of course people are making things. But if they don't already have capital and potential shareholders, we'll never hear about it.

Admittedly, this has been in the context of major technological developments, which are a bit different from a guy making a cool toy, but it still applies: seems like companies don't want to invest in new stuff, they want safe products that will sell exponentially forever.

I wonder how many cool developments have been made and overlooked due to the creators not being able to get on the capital bandwagon. Or are too neurodivergent to fit into a corporate setting or deal with the rigamarole. Everyone talks about the fun eccentric, but only if he's rich (and a man).

Anyway that's a really cool toy.
