It's got everything to do with the influence and power being actively wielded by political Christians, and the passive support they receive from the cultural centering of apolitical Christians. Anglophone culture is going through a Satanic Panic renaissance.

Satanism is a not a real threat, but the idea of it being a threat is. very real.

Not a move I'd personally make. But I'm becoming increasingly concerned by unironic nostalgia for 80s/90s satanic panic in general. And even moreso with the lack of pushback.

I feel like "The enemies in the game are a satanic cult, but it's all in fun... But also no joke, the devil is real and a true threat to the world!!" is a vibe I've 'sensed' increasingly often around media these days. But rarely actually engaged with directly in games I play. Maybe through good/bad luck.

FAITH and Inscryption et al, would be the main exceptions.
