markdown tips in addition to the regular stuff in the markdown tutorial.

a lot of the wild stuff you see here comes from people using html and css in their posts, though.

markdown plus provides a simpler way to get ahold of some of that magic.

for CW, it's a lot less restrictive than mastodon; basically if you're talking about stuff that is likely to legitimately need a CW it would be polite. deeply difficult mental health stuff, huge photos of spiders, gore, weird kinks. things of that nature.

tagging is currently somewhat of a free for all. "The Cohost Global Feed" is (last I checked) more popular than "Global Cohost Feed" or any of the alternatives, though they might overtake it sometime. (and i don't say that just because i accidentally invented the idea.) tags in the search or autocomplete are sorted by popularity afaict.

I don't think tagging has really settled down yet, but the first person to use a hashtag gets to set its canonical capitalization! Use this power wisely.

Adult content is set on a per-chost basis instead of at an account level, which is nice. I see people using CWs mostly to talk about violence or depressing news. but, like, not to the level that masto users do

supported markdown stuff is here: https://cohost.org/rc/content/markdown-reference I especially like the read more choice, which can be very useful for both long posts and when you don't want to hide the entirely of your post for the sake of a content warning
