among the Shoals of the Betweenseas, the process of Dracosis is more common than one would expect. different Shoals view it in different ways. on Izalia, it is viewed as something mundane. after all, on Izalia, everyone considers themselves some sort of dragon. as such dracosis is just...someone ending up as something that most would expect.
other Shoals may be more cruel - on Grolsha, dragons are often executed if caught, as dragons are viewed as being who spit in the face of the holy doctrine of Paradise, glory-stealers who do not deserve the bounty of the Shoals that Paradise had granted the Betweenseas. on Hilato, they are viewed with suspicion and concern - an outside influence, one that represents what is quite literally ripping their world apart.
regardless, the process of becoming a dragon is often one that occurs due to high emotional states. distress, fear, joy, seeing another proud dragon...all sorts of triggers. it is a swift and painless process, despite appearances. dragons are natural shapeshifters...and as such, shedding the form they were in before for the first time is as effortless as any shapeshifting.
