i'm a scientist

🧊xenoblade fan, m:tg lore fan, tabletop roleplayer, ff14 player, bionicle nerd. loves to worldbuild to a detrimental degree. main fronter. a dragon who moonlights as a partially-scaled jakkai. she/her, shi/hir

--

🌹Magic: The Gathering gameplay fan, Fortnite player, Gundam and mecha fan. Loves awful puns and foxes. Secondary fronter. Zoroark/Braixen/Dragon hybrid, taur-adjacent, fine with just being called a dragon. She/her.

--

🐭robotic lab rat. enjoys scientific pursuits above all else, though also likes being small. desires total world domination but only in the sense of turning everyone into rodents and doing nothing else. third most common fronter. she/they/it

--

🧬Deer-shaped robot chassis carrying a nonhuman intelligence. Don't ask about the name, please. Also into mecha and sci-fi in general as well as nature, surprisingly enough. Rarely fronts, extremely grumpy when I do. Would be very horny if not for problems with the body. Is the main one who directs what we wear when being fancy. They/she.

--

🌊Aquatic dragoness who's part rat. Tabletop player, fan of tinkering and mechanical things of all sorts. Eternally upset magic isn't real, purely because that means I can't mess with it. Shi/hir, she/her

"The privacy invading feature that was patched into your browser and silently turned on by default was announced on our browser's blog 2 years ago so why are you so mad?"

My dude I'm probably in the top 0.01% of humans alive advocating for your product and I have never read your fucking blog because even I think "keeping up on the blog of the browser I use" is a fucking weirdo move

I just checked my Firefox preferences for the new privacy violation feature by searching for "Website Advertising Preferences" and got nothing. Thought "okay, I don't have this update yet, don't need to worry about that" - and then I searched manually and found it.

I firmly do not believe this is moustache-twirling evil behavior (even though the overall feature is) but rather a quirk of whatever markup they're using to generate the prefs page; that heading is (basically) an h1 instead of an h2, and none of the other h1s in the prefs are searchable either. But you should know, if you go in to turn it off, that it won't come up in a search, you have to go to the privacy tab and look manually.

And it sure is convenient, given that I never would have remembered to check for this again. That's how most dark patterns work, by the way.

I find the timing suspicious. They acquire an ads company, one month later they add an ads feature but 2 years ago they mentioned it in a blog post? I would double check wayback machine personnally.

God bless Librewolf.
Been using it for over a year and haven't run into any problem that forced me into running vanilla Firefox.
I can totally see it replacing FF in at least one well-known Linux distribution (at least the popular independents) if Mozilla keeps up their shenanigans.
