Arika (Tetris The Grand Master, Fighting EX Layer, co-dev on new Tekken, etc) has formally announced plans to collaborate with SNK on "revamping" (reviving/rebooting) old SNK IP, with specific plans for non-fighting-game-IP.
my first reaction to that header image was concern that Arika was now the property of bin-Salman and co., so I'm just happy that's not the case... and from there, my first thought was, "what if this is a swerve and they've been tapped to bring back Art of Fighting in a new format, like they've been mulling over"

is TSS a fighting game...?
for the purposes of this discussion, let's pretend it isn't

magical drop 99
Not a SNK IP, fortunately or unfortunately. (nor is Puzzle Bobble, or Windjammers, or Aero Fighters, or many other games heavily associated with Neogeo)
Arika's VP also ruled out any "__ 99" games, as they feel that's a Nintendo thing and they don't feel it appropriate to pursue that format for other publishers.
twould be cool though, seeing 98 people lose in the space of ten seconds

ASO: ARMORED SCRUM OBJECT?!?!?!
I have seen a lot of JP folk mentioning this specific game (usually alongside Joy Joy Kid, so read into that what you will)
i regret to inform you that based on mihara's exchange with sega's yosuke okunari on xxxxter [https://twitter.com/miharasan/status/1767408558491209974](look through the quoted tweets to go back through the conversation), the immediate prospects for it don't seem so great... (not impossible, but it does not look like their first choice or even first several choices)
dang... realistically, there's only a few things it might actually be and I didn't really think it'd be TSS, but there are also only a few things I'd want it to be and TSS is right up there
I see Mihara linked to this late-'22 interview with SNK's president in which he outlines their "revamp" plans: basically, they're just trying to broaden the reach of their IPs beyond fighting games and maximise the value of individual characters and so on, with the eventual goal of priming them for use in other media... typical cross-media aspirations, I guess.
it's funny seeing Mihara joke about "if we left it to Nishitani we'd be doing Joy Joy Kid Dash" because he did pull something very similar during the process of adding Terry Bogard to Fighting EX Layer—SNK let them pick any one character, apparently, which meant Nishitani immediately wanted to ask for Chang, of all characters, and his team had to haggle away half a dozen other freak picks before they could convince him to do the sensible thing and pick the poster boy and not friggin Sho Hayate or whoever.
