it's amazing how the fgc basically owes everything to capcom. even if you ignore the fact that street fighter 2 is the most important fighting game of all time for laying the ground works for the entire genre you still have to acknowledge darkstalkers
darkstalkers was possibly the first fighting game with an air dash (i say possibly because there could always be some obscure game that people have missed over the years). and that mechanic in combination with others such as meter gain/loss based on how aggressive you were laid the groundworks for airdasher games like blazblue and guilty gear
and that's only really a small portion of how influential darkstalkers is
