we are aware of an issue causing some posts to not display images embedded in the post text using markdown ![]() or html <img>. we have some theories about what might be causing this, but are currently unable to reproduce the issue in any of our local environments.
given that this issue is not impacting site availability, we are unable to easily reproduce it, and it's a saturday, we will be investigating further on monday. the data saved for the posts has not changed, so once we fix the issue, the display of the posts will return to normal.

we've determined the issue and rolled out a fix. new posts should no longer be impacted and we are currently running a maintenance job to fix old posts as well. we expect it to be finished within an hour and will update this post with an all-clear once it's done.
