Hell yeah! We haven't been to the Mojave since like April for that same reason, and the Anza Borrego since like July (and that was a "don't hike just stay in the car" trip cuz it was 110).
I've taken a couple short ref gathering trips out toward Indo but like you they've been in-car only, it's been ridiculous.
I don't think I've ever hiked Anza Borrego, I'll have to add that to the list for the fall.
