I didn't get Homestuck, how did Homestuck use the internet, exactly? curious to hear, I thought it was just a webcomic/flash animations.
Tied into another webcomic hosted in parallel, had parallel storylines in popups, rewrote its page CSS depending on the chapter, used hyperlinks in character conversation logs, and of course full-blown interactive flash games, not just animations. Oh, and a vast music library, of which only a subset was actually used in the comic itself. Not as technically impressive as this or other hypermedia, in terms of integration and execution, but it was a rare case of a hypermedia work that was staggeringly huge and truly multi-media.
Opened this in a tiling window manager, just about exploded, whoops c.c
It works quite well if you set it to use floaty windows! On i3wm it'd be window [class="*"] floating enable in your config file.
I mean, yes, but that feels a bit heavyweight for something I can just open on the other computer ^^; That is a good point, though!
That was absolutely incredible - I couldn't hope to be that good at front-end development if I spent the rest of my life getting better at it - and it was feel-good too!
haha I think I'd be fired if I wrote code like this as a front-end dev in a team :)
but it works great for personal hobby projects like this!!
hm all the popups just opened in new tabs which i'm guessing was not the intended experience
oh yeah they should be popup popups, might be a Browser Settings Thing
no i think i've just had firefox set to force new windows into tabs for like eleven years haha
This is extraordinary. A masterclass in ridiculous hypermedia bullshit. I love it.
This is fantastic
Also, the browser history looks very funny after this
god this was so fucking cool. i tried it on firefox on macos and it absolutely couldnt keep up, but the experience was quite good on windows 11 (in edge, bleh, but still)
Wow! That's an amazing use of the browser. Thank you so much for sharing!
(minor niche caution: if you are a weirdo who uses their "recently closed windows" section as a stash for browser windows you're not using at the moment, you will lose all of them)
source: all my tabs gone
