kind of silly but we came up with rife by just looking at like. synonyms for "many" with requirement that it start with the letter R because we wanted our name to be alliterative. it ended up being a word that had a bit of abstraction from the original concept but were happy with it because it is like a neat word and we've never seen anyone else use it as a name.

mine (polychotomous) was just a username i used almost a decade ago before i knew about plurality at all, ended up being definitionally perfect and a no brainer to use for a system name once we knew

Hoot_OS was based off of our username, Hootwheelz. We view our system as similar in function to an operating system, where our headmates are essentially different programs who are capable of different tasks and serve different purposes. If we feel it necessary to be referred to as a collective, we prefer Hoot but are also fine with Stryx or Amity, two of the most frequent fronters in the bunch

My main advice regarding system name is that there are no rules. You can change your system name whenever, have multiple names, or forgo having a system name altogether even! So, don't be afraid to throw something on and try it out.

We have a number of shared names we use around the Internet, ourselves. The one we'd consider our system name, Hungry Ghosts, is a bunch of in-jokes about being Chinese-American, our feelings about community, our upbringing, and a book we read as a kid. But we actually don't use that one as much as the various other shared screennames we have.

hmm hmm !! ya we're trying not to b toooooo strict or like , idk , judgey ??? about any ideas but is good to b reminded to just try shit out w/o needing it to fit any preconceived ruleset

thx yall for sharing !!! vvv helpful ideas :3

we came up with meadow because we have a lot of furries/animals so it's like all of us are hanging out in one big meadow :)

I think a lot of systems generally pick something that suggests many things and has some kind of symbolism to them and also functions as a pretty name

but also some just pick another cute name

i wanna highlight the distinction you drew between a system name and a like shared name! for us having a sort of coat to put on (lys) that help people identify "hey that's lys!" is so different than having a hugely descriptive, invocative, or evocative title. and it happens that's the name we've been using, so wahooey. but a name can just be an interface / transport layer that brings others to your own named and nameless gravity.

our system name, coffeecakes, is just because we really like coffeecake & mike thought it sounded like a funny coffee shop band name. our collective name is "names everyone is comfortable being addressed by and shared with the rest of us".

Hmmm... Well, before we transitioned, one of us identified with our given name more than the others but still picked a different personal name to distinguish.

When we transitioned, we changed our legal name to one that was (more or less) acceptable to all of us so our shared name is our legal name (jam) plus an s (jams) since there are three of us. And this is how we navigate the world. Our personal names are only used in certain settings

We also have a system name ("the cute frogs") which is mainly to identify ourselves to other systems, but that was a silly whim of my headmate and probably subject to change.
