How to how to know if therian? And which of the animals bouncing in my brain I am

short answer: would you feel happy to call yourself literally an animal? if so, you're a therian! and if that doesn't sound so great, then you might not be.

longer answer:

i don't like to say "it's completely your choice, up to you," because that feels like it implies it's meaningless & that therians could simply choose not to be. it's not! but also it's not some deep spiritual thing that defines your life, or something you always had to feel like, or something with obvious signs - at least, it doesn't always have to be.

it's moreso like, try calling yourself one for a bit. see if the label fits, try talking to other therians, see if the community fits and helps you out any. there's absolutely nothing wrong with calling yourself one, and later deciding it doesn't work, realizing it doesn't fit, that's ok! so really, just go and see how it feels in practice.

as to what animal you are, well, there are a lot of good ones. if you're looking for suggestions, might i recommend deer, or some other hooved animal? /s

if you have a couple of particular animals in mind, you could honestly be all of them; being multiple animals isn't exactly uncommon. (i've seen the label "polytherian" used in the past for someone like that, but it, like other more-specific identity labels, seem to have fallen out of favour more recently, which i consider a plus (but feel free to take it if you wanna, i'm not your mom }:P).)

and similarly to being a therian in general, nobody will get on your case for calling yourself a, idk, lion for a month and then dropping it later. in fact, it will probably take you a while of trying out different things to find what in particular makes you happy, and that's ok. it's easier with a good community to help you.
