The monster towered above us on spindly, sinewy limbs, covered in a layer of organically grown calcium carbonate. Its flesh seemed to slough as it moved and shifted its weight, a chunk nearly falling off as its body contorted into ever more horrible shapes. It seemed to be... reabsorbing the bone plates it had formed as a response to our initial volley, the skeletal mass dissolving into its skin in moments save for a long, thin section that resembled a blade. New structure formed at the base of this bony blade, an appendage... a joint... an arm. It swung this new weapon with a terrifying ease as we began to run.
