okay so for the next campaign im wanting to do in my setting (once the current round of reworks for my tabletop system is done) im wanting to use an offshoot of the Prometheus AI as the big bad - one currently contained by the Adventurer's Guild in a specially made facility specifically to house it and keep it from messing with things.
I'm thinking it'll start off as a kinda normal campaign, new characters, some basic starter quests, and then "the Guild" will issue the party a quest to "retake" the facility as it has been "conquered by an unknown hostile group." they won't be told what's there, only that it's important it stay locked up.
Midway through them blasting their way through the place, they'll receive a signal saying "hey what the fuck are you doing" and it'll be revealed - the Guild didn't issue that quest. In fact, the facility went dark a few days prior, and they'd been planning on sending a much more experienced group to check it out.
And then the party's ship is missing and they need to get picked up.
