i think my favorite older minecraft mod thats still going is the betweenlands
the one drawback it has in my eyes is an insistence on staying on 1.12.2 despite that version having a hardcoded item ID limit they're starting to reach. if they'd updated the mod to a newer version sooner it wouldn't have been quite so daunting to do so
