the way that the tower of the gods sector of the great sea in wind waker is just completely empty until you actually raise the tower itself
it'd be twice as funny if something popped out of the ground in the part that looks like a face, and the cut-out circle part is just Like That.
Legitimately, catching a glimpse of the world map in the background of an early-ish Steven Universe episode and seeing a giant fucking hole in the middle of Russia was the first time I realized that that show was actually being very deliberate in its worldbuilding. It's such a cool thing to see.
