some among my dnd group had got custom 3d-printed minis from Hero Forge, and i thought they were super-neat, but it got me curious -- could i find a place that let me full-color 3d-print-to-order and make my own custom fursona miniature?

some searching revealed i.materialize and lo and behold, they had options to print in all sorts of materials. the full-color plastic print was only about 20 USD, but the site has a 50 USD minimum order (that i only found out at checkout time, grr), so i decided to snag a non-colored bronze mini of the same model for 40 USD. since the company is based in Belgium, US shipping was an additional 20 USD, so grand total it cost around eighty bucks for the pair.

i had to retopologize and resculpt parts of the model to make sure it was a manifold solid and increase the volume a tad in places (namely where the "hair" meets the head) to get it over the 1mm minimum thickness. even still, the plastic one feels very light and extremely fragile, but i suppose that's an expected trade-off for a design that has so many tiny limbs and so little volume. the bronze one feels a lot sturdier, like an oversized monopoly piece, and i feel a lot less scared of accidentally snapping this one in half between my fingers.

i'm going to need to find a way to protect them in my backpack from crushing / shock damage during transportation (since 3d-printed stuff is never as sturdy as die-cut or molded), but i love these minis so so so much; highly recommend.
