once again thinking about my favorite "weird" planet in my setting that's just
ancient massive arcane experiment
This world shouldn't be able to harbor life. And yet, through ancient works of magic, it does.
It orbits too close to its parent star, its atmosphere should be blasted away from it. Yet large crystalline satellites orbiting about its equator shield it from the harshest of its alien sun's rays, as well as its more intense eruptions. The atmosphere is stable.
It lacks any tectonic activity that would cycle fresh resources to the surface. A network of massive enchantments carved into its surface subsume ancient stone and bring new, fresh magma boiling up to the surface, keeping its insides molten to circulate. Extremophile ecosystems that form the basis of this world's more complex life have come to rely on this cycling of material.
The planet's ley lines do not flow as they would naturally, instead having been altered to funnel more mana to the systems keeping this world liveable. The marks of artificial tampering still show in their layout - straight lines unlike those found in natural ley lines, intersecting at regular angles and with incredible precision. Even today it's considered nearly impossible to engineer ley lines on a scale such as this, simply nudging a ley line to be a bit more convenient for some purpose taking decades.
