remind me to tell about the time that i convinced my siblings that i gave our windows 95 box life. it was exactly the same con the industry is pulling right now but it used text files and the print command in dos. some of my siblings still refuse to believe that computer was not alive.

i was poking around in ms dos when i was like 15. i discovered the print command then made a text file to test it. as soon as i did i realized i could totally punk my sibs with this. in order to really work they would need to feel like it was a question they asked. i picked the three most suggestible. i knew what they were all obsessed with. i also knew i could play them off of each to correct enough specifics to get close enough to create like three questions each. i literally created nine text files with snarky responses.

since i've never really been one to leave much to chance i also made sure they would each see the three things they were likely to ask about on their way to the computer. ya know, just kind of make sure they have it loaded in cache. then i went and got them. i told them that i was typing on the computer and the damn thing responded. i was doing my best :O face. they didn't buy it. yet. they were curious enough to demand proof tho. lmao

i told them that print let's the computer know you're asking a question. and .txt let's it know it's the end of the question. this got balked at a bit but i was ready with some bullshit about people don't even all speak the same language, how dare you judge the computer for it's eccentricities!?!? from there it was all downhill.

at this point i became the skeptic. the harder i tried to convince them otherwise the more they believed that i totally pulled some elf shit and whispered to it until it woke up. one of them had nightmares for two weeks because he was sure the computer was coming after him for some reason.

^,..,^
