had a fucked up project zomboid mod idea to make the game more Fun (read: painful)

The mod adds a new, major, map-altering event that can occur at any point from 3 to 6 months after the initial outbreak. Timeline is as follows:

  • 9:00 AM, 1 day before event: radio chatter on various frequencies from remaining pockets of the military. Mentions of a break-in from an organized group of survivors at a major facility in the southwestern US.
  • 15:00, day before the event: Military chatter reveals that the facility in question houses launch codes for the United States's nuclear arsenal, sent there during the evacuation of the white house. It also contains the systems to remotely initiate launches of every nuclear armament on the continental US.
  • 12:00, day of the event: A nuclear strike hits the center of downtown Louisville. Surrounding area reduced to burning, irradiated rubble.
  • 12:30, day of the event: an ashfall begins across all of Knox Country. Ash is irradiated and causes damage. Radio chatter mentions strikes hitting major population centers across the globe, as well as subsequent automated launches from Russia.
  • Over the following weeks, ash continues to fall across knox country. Days grow cloudier, rain becomes more frequent, temperature drops. Rain transitions to a radioactive snow. Temperatures bottom out at -20 degrees Fahrenheit within this time, but continue to get lower as more time passes. Nuclear winter sets in.
