One thing i love in more idealistic transhumanist fiction is when a person's reconfiguration is based less on just ceasing to be human entirely, and more about removing the facets of being human that they weren't a fan of so they can focus on the things they adore about it and seeing the contrast between characters who had different ideas, without it boiling down to the corporate standby of "To be less human biomatter is to be less of a person."

What a character chooses to keep given the chance says just as much as what they would trade away.
