I have to post these as soon as I finish them or I'll grow to dislike them too much to do it. I know the overall head proportions are off here - I didn't make his face long and thin enough - but I'm happy with the things I did learn. Diego luna is a real master of subtle expressions, and so I was able to think about little shifts in lines that help express that.

For some reason a random detail that's always stuck in my head was Jack using Cara Delvigne as a reference for Clem when they introduced her. So I thought it would be fun to do an art study that doubled as light fanart. And then when I was done I couldn't resist adding the Russian sage in (and foolishly drew it on the same layer, so I can't show you the og study). I know I'm technically already breaking my "black and white" art rule, but the sage didn't look as good in black and white, and what are rules for if not to be broken?

Funny story: I bought a home last May, and the woman who lived here before us was an avid gardener, so the garden was full of mature plants when we arrived. And as I was looking up what they all were, I found out that one was Russian sage. A small coincidence, but a significant one, and one that helped cement my feeling that I had found the place I was meant to be. I'd like to get a tattoo of Russian sage at some point, but location and design are not yet settled in my mind.

One thing I've come to realise is that while I love all styles of art, and deeply admire people who use colour well, the kind of art that most feels like it has the energy I want to reproduce is greyscale comics, especially manga. So I'm trying to focus on work in that vein and feel out some things for myself. For the moment I just want to do studies and practise. I know there are lots of flaws with this one, for example, but it was still so satisfying to get something I'm halfway happy with.
