and, to practice what i preached and make sure i wasnt blithely telling people to do something that sucked or didn't work, i set up a manual RSS feed for the zonelets portion of my own site. as i hoped it's fiddly but not that bad.

if you're interested in either: building a personalized feed for keeping track of friends across multiple platforms, or adding a handwritten RSS feed to a personal neocities-type site: check it out

i'm not committing to inoreader yet but they have unlimited free trial and full-featured subscription does appear to be the cost of 2x Cohost Pluses

& finally, if you have suggestions for links or facts or services to share please let me know! i'd be happy to add more knowledge

in reply to @candiedreptile's post:

when it comes to twitter, nitter instances technically generate rss at /username/rss, but i just tested with nitter.poast.org and it's not great and images don't show, so i have to right click and open on the browser. so it's what i'd call feasible if you really wanna keep tabs on a small group of people, but could get annoying real quick. this is apparently because nitter is mostly dead, i'm not sure if it could work better with a privately-run instance. in any case i don't think i could test that, given i'm in brazil and can't connect to twitter itself
