It's been three years, with the pandemic really derailing my TTRPGing (as I only like to play in person) but finally it looks like a campaign is coming together again! After the Years of Plague I decided against running what I tried starting in January 2020, Eclipse Phase. I've been forced to LARP a setting where a deadly and constantly mutating disease stalks humanity, so something lighter then!
Which I've decided will be Starfinder! I wanted something scifi since I've only ever run fantasy (D&D 3.5, Midnight, Iron Kingdoms) or contemporary horror (World of Darkness.) Finding a setting that was interesting AND a rules set that isn't overly complicated in scifi TTRPGs isn't easy. But this looks like it will do the trick. It's a very fantasy sort of scifi, being directly related via unexplained universe shenanigans to Pathfinder's world, and it features all the typical D&D-ish fantasy things like dwarves, drow, planes, etc. But the technology seems to be more the basis for the civilizations in it rather than just magic, with that balance different for each species.
Luckily I've found four local friends who want to play, so here's hoping it comes together and we get adventuring among the stars soon!
