The people who like Sonic Frontiers (a large portion of the people playing it) really like it, and the people who don't like it really hate it.
The game isn't perfect, but it's genuinely a good game. That being said, if you vehemently hate sonic, especially 3D Sonic from any era, or think the only good game in the franchise is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the game cannot fix that. It's a good game, but it isn't a miracle worker or magical.
You're free to dislike the game (or any game, really), I just strongly advise against going out of your way to insult developers or insinuate laziness on their part.
I'm just so tired of the "game bad, devs are lazy" garbage I see pointed at not just the Sonic series, but many other games and franchises. And it's always coming from people who don't understand the game development industry, especially outside of indie games.
You not liking a game doesn't make a game objectively or universally bad, nor does it mean you should go trashing people who worked on it or people who genuinely enjoy it.
Let people enjoy things, please.
I feel like part of this is also caused by players being very nostalgic about certain games they really enjoyed as a kid, or generally just had very nice memories with. It often ends up with games of newer generations being compared to what people were used to play as kids, often being very vocal about it.
I never was super into Sonic, so I can't speak from my experience, but from my eyes, Frontiers looked... fine? It definitely has got a fair share of issues, but from what I've heard and read, I felt like some people were just bashing the game for the sake of bashing.
Same goes for Pokemon, but this time I can speak a bit from my experience. I definitely have liked the old Pokemon games more, but it doesn't make the new ones objectively bad, I just feel like I'm not the target audience for them anymore, and that's fine. I definitely feel a lot more nostalgic about the pixely styles, but I'm not gonna tell people what games should they enjoy, because in the end, what I don't find that fun may be a life changing experience for someone.
Also the whole "you just have low standards" bs, just shut up already. This is so often just a petty excuse to undermine someone's good experience with a game, because not every person is looking for every piece of art to be innovative or have the most beautiful cover art ever. Some people are just looking for another game to kill some time with, and have a fun time with them. Let them have their moment.
Disliking a game is fine, and I understand getting salty or disappointed about something, it's definitely happened to me a few times, but you gotta watch out to not say hurtful things about the people who spent the time making everything. Gamedev isn't easy at all, it's a very time consuming job that requires iron nerves sometimes. Something that might look "lazy" for you might actually have been hundreds of hours of work.
Tl;dr - it's okay not to enjoy things, just keep it in mind that art is subjective and don't be a dick about it. Even if something isn't innovative, people are allowed to enjoy it.
