• they/them

I play games and make mods, I sometimes ramble and talk about life stuff.

I really appreciate when websites provide options to either have a good light or dark mode. So many times I see a lot of people do one big mistake: making their websites way too saturated. This applies both to light and dark versions of websites.

A big reason why a lot of people dislike light modes on websites is because they're often just simply done wrong. Having a pure white background is probably one of the worst tropes websites follow, it's like if they made them an eyesore on purpose to make you not use it at all. I think Cohost's light mode is alright as the background is slightly desaturated, but I wouldn't mind if changing the theme was just an option in your settings, currently the way it's implemented is pretty weird.

Now let's talk about dark modes, I hate when they are pitch black, please if anyone has a website, have a secondary option that makes the background slightly more grey-ish or another color, because my issue with it is that if my eyes get used to the pitch dark colors, switching to anything else that's remotely bright lowkey hurts my eyes.

And don't be like fucking Discord, where instead of them addressing a problem with their light mode being painful too look at, they were memeing about it for years instead. Imagine being an actual mature company.

Also shoutouts to Mastodon, which I've checked out just recently. This is what I mean by a decent dark/light option. They're not completely opposite colors, but it seems like they had an understanding that poorly picked colors can be a serious accessibility problem. I recommend taking a look at them.
