Today marks Trans Day of Remembrance. I'm not going to try to say something profound, as I think Trans Lifeline does a wonderful job of honoring and remembering those we lost this year. Please take the time to read their names today here: https://t.co/J7MGrhE0H4
This year has been draining, exhausting, and devastating for trans people here in the states. But through all this strife, we can't forget to watch out for each other. Hold those you love a little closer today.
With love and rage, Mae <3
If you have some spare couple minutes, and if you're up the energy to read it (I understand if not, it's a difficult topic), I recommend checking out the document linked above, even if it only talks about the US specifically. This day is dedicated to the people who we lost to the world's cruelty, giving them a time to honor people who were a part of our community.
This is also a reminder to why the trans community fights and protests, to make the world a better and safer place for our friends, to fight misinformation and fearmongering from people who use their power to opress us, to help people who face rejection from their friends and families.
This day is also a great opportunity to remind everyone: if you are under emotional crisis, please contact your friends or family, and if you don't have a safe space to speak about it, reach out to a professional. There's numerous hotlines that can be accessed to provide aid (some of which are linked at the end of the document above). We live in a place, where dangerous stigma about mental health struggles is being thrown around, and there's absolutely nothing wrong in asking people for help. It's not a sign of weakness.
