getting back to this topic I'm glad to see people on Tumblr do a pushback against call///outs and how bullshit they are! most of them are targeted hate campaigns towards kinky queer folks or mentally unstable people and it makes me have hope how people are beginning to realize that they don't matter and that it's a tool used mostly to hurt others. learn to tolerate and block others, learn to care and treat others with respect.

Personally I heard about controversy involving this sites moderators and though damn well guess i won't be here, but then it soon came out that it was all bs. Felt stupid and reblog any info to help spread the info on debunking, then I decided to make an account here. Geniunly liked wished i didn't fell for the crap

callout posts feel like they were once something that was treated as a last resort towards actual, heinous and tangible harm by someone but has now become equivalent to people unleashing blast damage for low level aggressions they refuse to hash out in private

plus the sad truth is most people who get involved with callout campaigns are just in it for spectacle and appearing performatively "better" than the sick fuck who wants to bang mufasa lion king or someone who "weaponized their neurotypical privilege" by asking a roomie to do their dishes

the number of times ive seen someone blindly retweet a callout and then append their commissions or store links to it because they know it's a chance to peddle their wares on top of someone's miserable situation makes me feel insane

that, and also like you said, majority of this shit is clearly intended hate campaigns against queer and other marginalized folk because fuck us if we dare to have one day without a boot on our neck

ive seen too many cases of flimsy callout posts and one of my earliest experiences with it in the early 2010s had me see a really close friend of mine get called abusive for what was essentially being a low level kind of aloof/bad boyfriend at the time. like it was supremely entry level breakup shit that didn't need to become spectacle

and while situations can be nuanced etc, callout shit also just doesn't leave much room for someone who does fuck up bad but actually has the desire to not be a shithead to actually improve themselves because this shit often stays permanently logged for YEARS with the types of people who farm misery for entertainment/posturing and as someone who believes everyone has a right to be better, a good 90% of callout shit completely spits in the face of restorative justice to me

i want people to better themselves more than i want them to be permanently isolated from any possibility of help from others but callout shit often demands You Fucked Up So Go Die And If Anyone Talks To You Theyre Complicit and i just can't with that stuff

especially wild to me that so often these callouts are like "um 15 years ago they said a slur" like. Callouts are just??? crusades. People who want the rush from excising sin from their holy lands or whatever. It's pure righteousness at best and represents this obsession with freezing the reputation of people at their absolute worst and declaring them forever stained with the unacceptable history of having ever made a bad decision. It's base bloodlust looking for any excuse, and if callouts ever did serve a genuine function for doing any kind of good, they have LONG since stopped being that tool, and have become nothing but a combination weapon and thrill ride for miserable internet users who want to take out their anger at the state of affairs on anyone they can construe as a representative target for their idea of the world's ills, at best.

there are cases where i want jack shit nothing to do with some parties and there are even cases ive seen callouts where its like "whoooof okay bye holy shit" but im not and never will be at any point so invested enough that i want to erase the potential futures of someone getting on the right track yknow

and thats just the cases where it can be presumed its not someone's hate campaign doing most of the legwork (which is sadly 90% of the callouts i see simply being someone's disgust at a kink or an identity being exacerbated for effect)

idk. im old. i have shit to do and we're all on this earth for such a short fucking time i cant be assed to be involved w callout nonsense

fucking insane to me how people will straight up follow accounts that are dedicated to whipping up callouts for any reason like????? helLO????? you have decided to take the word of someone who has made it their personal mission to launch targeted harrassment campaigns at whoever they can find, like, with enough regularity for it to be their fucking account gimmick?????? How do you not see some kind of trouble with this.

either way, people are once again speaking up about this so maybe something will change now

callouts have ruined my perception of what people actually Mean when they say someone is a pedo/rapist/zoo. The first thing I think is not, "oh my god that's horrible," it's "have they actually hurt someone or do they just have a fetish." And wouldn't you know, the ""evidence"" a recent one had for a transgirl being a rapist were screenshots of her talking on her side blog about her cnc fantasies. The op was a TERF, too.
