There exists on Furcadia a main map called Zefiroth, which is only accessible to players whose avatars have wings (or if a bewinged furre uses the "summon" command to invite a nonwinged furre there). Yes, this means that the map is technically only open to people who have spent money on the game, or otherwise had wings gifted to them one way or another. But that's not what this is about!!
Up in the northeast portion of the map, there's a floating island hidden behind a mazelike bank of clouds, and on this floating island there's a couch. The couch seats two people. According to some contemporary reports, the couch was often fought over.
Today I went to see the couch for myself, and when I sat on it I was greeting with a pair of system messages:
I'm not really familiar with this concept, but I've seen it in a few places, and some digging indicates that "Exclusive Turf" was originally a Kickstarter backer reward, with packages containing it starting at $100. It was also offered as a raffle prize at least once. More on the Kickstarter later... yeesh.
There are a lot of things one could say about the concept of 'spots' in a game without overlapping avatars; I remember fighting dearly for my particular spot (the pfp for this account) as a wee child with nothing better to do. I wonder if Confetti and Charlotte ever log in anymore? Will this collective $200 USD of virtual real estate continue to stay cold and unwarmed forever, in a game whose playerbase is so scarce that there's nobody left to bicker over the secret couch anymore?
