@Nahmbra asked:

What would make a Fox Island Ice Tea?

Alright, let's go.

So there are a few angles of attack here. I could do a strong drink inspired by the fox island out in Miyagi Prefecture, I could go with something that tries to imitate a sweet beverage that I like that isn't alcoholic, or I could go with a strong cocktail that would use a soda as part of its ingredients that I would drink.

Given @Nahmbra is a lover, I'm going with the third.

Now, I also have the absolute terror of making this in my head because I actually make my Long Island Iced Teas dryer for myself. [Never been a fan of sweet tea, too sugary, fite me irl]

I'd want to keep the biting citrus elements, so we're still probably going to have lemon involved. I'd also want to amp the tart fruity notes. Probably swap the simple for a fruit syrup, instinct says pomegranate, but I could also see like a sour cherry working there.

BRB, running to my bar and smelling boozes.

SOUNDS OF FOX CHAOS ENSUE

Alright back.

So we did some poking around our bar, and did a sniff of a few other things. We have a slo gin like using plums instead and it is tempting to go with that, but that would reduce the alcohol content [72 proof to say an 86 proof of a normal gin]. On the surface that doesn't seem like a bad idea, but that feels like it's missing the point of this challenge. Further, I'm not exactly convinced I want vodka in this drink. It is literally just booze for booze's sake and while that works mixologically with a Long Island Iced Tea, we're not aiming for trying to hit the flavor profile of something as specific as southern sweet iced tea.

Remember, we interpreted this challenge as making a fizzy drink that I would drink.

Actually hold on.

EVEN MORE SOUNDS OF FOX CHAOS

OKAY GOT IT FIGURED OUT.

Foxtrot Lemonade:

A cocktail made by F-Z-Blackheart.

  • .5 ounce of clear rum
  • 1 ounce of gin
  • .5 ounce of Tequila [Try going for a reposado if you really want to be like me]
  • .5 ounce of Creme de Menthe
  • 1 ounce of lemon juice
  • .5 ounce of tart fruit syrup [personally I would go with pomegranate, but raspberry, lemon, lime would all work here]
Top with a citrusy soda of choice, I could see this working with a sprite. Personally, I would go with something with more sour. Like a straight up lemon soda.

I'll get this thing a real honest mix on Friday or Saturday.

My reasoning:

So I really like this mix of lemon and floral notes on a lemonade. Lavender would be my first choice but I don't know much about say a creme de lavender. So removing the vodka for more gin and swapping the triple sec with creme de menthe leans really hard on those botanical and floral notes. You may honestly want to go 1.5 ounces of lemon juice because that would just be really tart and good with a lemonade if you wanted to go back to say a pour of simple. But like this is my cocktail. So my rules.

Alright after some testing, I can say that you want to go with a Rose Lemonade from Fentimans.

Plays with flora lemonade vibe I've been hunting for.

Also it's cute and pink.
