Free & Open Source Software

--

FOSS is a term used to describe software that is simultaneously free in the sense of "free speech" and open in the sense that users are granted the right to use, study, change and distribute the software and its source code to anyone and for any purpose.

The free and open source game engine got another update last week, thanks to a continued increase in attention and financial support! There are quite a few really cool things in this update, some of which I intend to use include the addition of code regions that let you mark out areas of code for folding, labeling and commenting in/out. Importing 3D assets is much better now, you don't need to restart the editor when making changes to your import settings. There's also been improvements to format support/conversion for the importer. There have been a lot of improvements everywhere so you should take a look at the link yourself!

As Blender nears it's 30 year anniversary of being released we now have another major release, Blender 4.0! This version will now become the next stable release after version 3.6.5. There are quite a few very exciting changes that I'm looking forward to using in my work.

(Yes I'm a bit late to share this but I've been busy lately and I think Blender is super neat!)

4.1 has now become the latest stable version for Godot. This version largely improves and polishes the major changes that came with 4.0 with many issues being addressed (over 900). Bug fixes, better performance, and better workflow are some of the notable highlights with this update. If your current project is in 4.0 it should be safe to update to the latest version here. Check the linked article for more information.
