if this is really your first time watching classic simpsons, as you go along, suddenly so many memes will start to make sense
i have seen a few episodes in passing as a kid and i know some of the memes but i have never like consciously sat down and watched it all
i wanted to be a simpsons kid and my parents didn't get it lol
my parents also werent into it so i never watched it as a child, i got into it as a teenager around the time season 17 aired which is a dogshit season but cause of that timing i have really weird nostalgia for a lot of these episodes. Only caught up on classic simpsons much later but got super obsessed with it and watched them all countless times and its basically comfort food now haha
i never rly had the motivation to go back and watch the old stuff, and i know at a certain point quality started to dip so i'm just watching as much as i can from like season 3 to 15 or so, lol. helps that my partner has all of it downloaded
highest point is season 5 to 8, where it gets bad is up for debate but imo it gets very patchy around season 11-12 and largely bad around season 15-16 so yeah thats a good place to draw the line. You can get a lot out of the teens era still despite some very questionable moments but it gets pretty bad in like the late teens cause they were also working on the movie then. I've watched every single episode until today at least once cause i'm a freak but at some point its really a question of if its worth putting in the effort anymore digging through the bad shit to find the redeemable good moments
i debated where to stop and decided to err on the side of having more episodes in total.
