You know all critique of the Factorio Guy™️ aside it's kinda astounding to me how influential Factorio has actually been. Like it pushed the gameplay loop of managing routing production lines and managing resources from the realm of flash and puzzle games into a mainstream genre unto itself and you can feel its influence seeping into adjacent genres. Like Timberborn is a cute little colony/city builder built around fluid simulations and verticality but it also challenges me to route power systems to factories and build my system over and around these systems carefully so they can be scalable and interlinked. Parkitect is a cute little indie theme park management game taking as directly after Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 as it can without just being made in Assembly but it also expands upon RCT2's mechanics by introducing the idea of managing staff deliveries of supplies to concession stands in a way that your guests won't notice cuz it'd ruin the magic of a THEME park to see a dude in a high vis vest carrying a crate of supplies around. It's kinda funny how Factorio is, as a relatively small indie title, a foundational experience that you get shades of across tons of genres and games today.
