Some trees were cut down at our grandparents' smallholding today.1 One of them pinged off a branch, which landed all the way in the far end of the yard. The second pic shows me pointing at the tree that launched it, although it may actually have snapped off another one that the falling tree landed on.2
Not pictured is the other side of the stick, which is full of woodpecker holes, hence the lack and bark and general dead-ness despite coming from a hitherto live tree.

They were too close to the house for their size.

The trees landed on top of eachother because it had to be done while the power was off, thanks to their proximity to the house's powerline. That meant there wasn't time to clear each tree away before cutting the next one.
