i thought we were almost rid of it, i thought it was nearly left in the 2010s with most other "gamer speak" and we weren't calling others or ourselves r* like it's xbox live, but i guess not?? i don't think it's even reclamation here i'm just reeling from it bein' one of the first things i saw after waking up
I've heard some folks talk about it in terms of reclamation and, like, idk. I'm lukewarm on reclamation as a concept in general since a lot of times it feels like "I wanna get to use slurs too" but this one especially feels that way to me. None of the "reclaimed" versions of it felt like they were doing anything but being self-derogatory.
that's not specifically what happened here, it was someone using it on themselves, i thought that one was drop and run considering how much violence it's been part of in extreme recency but i guess we don't share that mindset
Ah, fair. The dynamics are definitely different in the case of self-deprecation. This one has had an encounter with someone using it offensively on cohost, who definitely fell into the pattern outlined in her post. Not as relevant as she first assumed though.
