gonna preface this by saying that tragically, I still haven't managed to fully unplug from twitter (too many people there who haven't moved elsewhere, too much good stuff {mostly art} that does filter down to my timeline) which naturally exposes me to the usual discourse, but... shit got me thinking.
y'know how none of the people who balk at the very barest hint of a pup hood ever say a goddamn word about all the straight sexuality we're surrounded with? the shit that's fucking everywhere in advertising, popular entertainment, etc etc etc? it's never "stop telling rape jokes in front of my kids", it's always "if I have to see the barest hint of a latex suit before 9 PM I'm calling the police". the kind of shit that if you're in the right part of town will attract compliments even from the normie crowd. part of it's lashing out at things that are actually within easy reach, sure (yelling at people generally achieves more than yelling into the void and expecting a corporate board to pick up on it somehow) but like... it's still just targeting queer sexuality to the point where even the merest hint of it is strictly verboten.
idk. maybe I'm just being painfully european here and out of touch with american cultural norms, but a kid isn't going to be scarred forever by being in the presence of people in rubber animal suits that they aren't interacting with in any sort of sexual manner, with their parents present no less. they have more to fear from their local priest, if anything, and acting like an overgrown ten year old raised on nothing but shame about it won't help anyone.
