Yes, shocking. I know. It's such a common stereotype in both stories and roleplay for latex to squeak excessively under even the lightest of touches, but in reality? It doesn't actually squeak much.

What's the actual, real life sonic experience of latex? Well, as someone who wears the stuff:

It pops and snaps as your fingers glide over it and make it stretch and fold up, and then those folds slip right under your fingers with a little "Snap!" Snappity snappity snap!

Latex on latex REALLY makes for a symphony of snaps! 👀👂🎵

When there's not enough friction for your fingers to fold it up and make it snap? It barely makes noise at all, or at least a very low, almost creaky sort of "squeak" if it could be called that if there's just enough to catch the latex a little as your finger drags.

Snug-fit latex creaks as you move about. I suppose it could be called squeaks, but again, low-pitched and creaky. Loose-fit latex rustles in a uniquely latexy way, kind of like wobbling a stiff sheet of plastic but mixed with the sound of a rustling vinyl shower curtain. Gods, I absolutely adore that sound... 🥰

The only time latex ever really squeaks is when it's an inflated balloon, at which point you're practically rubbing your fingers against the equivalent of a taut latex drum head. It's just not what's replicated when you're wearing a suit with solid, squishy flesh immediately underneath that smooth surface instead of a hollow space of nothing but air, and certainly not what's replicated when you're a fantastical creature made of the stuff like I am.

I plan to carry these experiences forward into my roleplay and my writing, because to me it really sells the scene so much harder when those kinds of details--the sensory experiences--actually stick a bit closer to reality, even when the rest of the scene is beyond fantastical.

I would like to add: grazing a finger over freshly cleaned latex sounds like record scratching.

Also, it would be neat to get samples of sounds from densely packed latex, like if it were solid rubber legs rubbing against each other or a tail. Bet it would sound way different from a thin layer over skin.
