going to flip to the opposite end of the popular/obscure spectrum for this one. for those who dont know, Blaseball was a baseball simulator that included supernatural, eldritch elements and almost no graphical components, which let the fans make art and identities for the players and teams who were little more than names and stats. interested? heres a great summary by a channel i adore.

one of the fan communities around the team named The Seattle Garages, which had a guitar emoji logo, attracted a lot of musical peeps, and they formed a band: The Garages. as a internet music group spread all over the world, they pumped out so much incredible music mostly themed around the events that occurred in Blaseball. Being an internet culture band, they did a few pre-recorded, digital concerts for charities and things including Dessert Bus For Hope, which is an annual fundraiser by Loading Ready Run (another fun group that does a lot of MTG content).

This is a shining example of what the internet can be: a space for fans across the world to collaborate and create together. A bunch of awesome, queer musicians having fun around a silly game that a lot of people gathered around because it was ripe for collaboration. Artists and writers were swarming and creating discord servers for the teams, making character art, character backstories, relationships, rivalries, etc. All fed by an uncaring, random but fair baseball simulator and the creators who inflicted eldritch horrors like blood rain and incineration on the players through the sim. later seasons allowed more fan participation through voting on new effects and buffs for teams, players, and also stadiums at one point.

So here's one of my favorite concerts by them, but if you only have the appetite for one song, Pathetic/Spineless by The Garages is one of my favorite songs of all time, so check it out on bandcamp or anywhere music streams really.

Here's the concert that i rewatch all the time, its really a rogues gallery of cool and queer people making cool and original indie rock.
