You invited a friend over to witness your transformation. Ostensibly because you thought they'd find it interesting, but really you wanted someone who knew their stuff around robots there to support you. They might not know anything about magic, but if you sprung an oil leak, or your reactor went critical, you knew you'd be in good hands.

After the spell, you felt various aches and pains across your body. Your friend attempted to reassure you, but you insisted they run diagnostics. In the end, they humoured you. To your chagrin, they were right, and your body was just recalibrating. The two of you began working through the "List of Things to do as a Robot" you'd made.

Once you finally managed to "Make Toaster Toast (wireless)", you turned around to find you were alone. You make your way, toast in hand, to the hallway, and find your friend fishing something out of their bag.

"Oh hey. Guess I kinda ditched you there. I just had a realisation. Fancy an upgrade?"

They went on the explain how the box contained a set of mil-spec oculars compatible with your current chassis. They pulled it open, showing a pair of small cylinders, connection port on one end, ring of red lights on the other.

After a quick—but very relaxing—dip into maintenance mode, you found yourself booting up again. This time, only your ocular sensors ached. That quickly dissipated though, and your vision focussed in. It was as if you'd finally put on your glasses. Your friend guided you through some of the new functions. To change modes, you had to "blink" while thinking about which mode you want to use. You were able to cycle through visual spectrum, infra-red, ultraviolet, and magnetic field modes.

The List quickly went out the window, as you tried to push your temporary eyes to their limits. Tracking your friend through the walls with infra-red, counting the apples on a tree across the valley, and watching the magnetic flow around the head of an old compass. It was a strange experience. You ended the evening watching the stars. It's boggling the number you could make out, even with your enhanced processing speed. You didn't even notice when your friend fell asleep.

Quietly as you could, you carried them into your bed. You weren'r not going to need it that night. Instead you plugged yourself into a charging port. You set an alarm for the morning, to make sure you could safely unplug before the spell wears off, and entered sleep mode.

When you booted in the morning, you were alone. Well, practically, your friend was just asleep still. You decided not to disturb them, as plastic turned to skin, metal to muscle and bone. The reversion seemed to be going fine, but for one detail; an itchiness in your eyes. It took only a glance in the mirror to diagnose. You looked just as you had yesterday, but for one thing; a pair of crimson irises. And you could make out every last detail of them.
